28, 2001 LEONI and Hella to develop wiring harnesses of the future Joint Venture to unite competencies Nürnberg Subject to approval of the Federal Cartel Office, LEONI Bordnetz-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of the LEONI AG, Nürnberg, will enter a joint venture with a 50 % share for each company with the lighting and electronics supplier Hella KG Hueck & Co, Lippstadt, effective retrospective to 1 March 2001. The new company by the name of Inteldis GmbH will have its headquarters in Würzburg and will begin to operate with a team of about 50 employees. It is the intention with the support of the parent companies to develop and market completely new and intelligent wiring harness systems for the automotive industry. The wiring and electronics are to be combined in the best possible way in order to meet the constantly rising requirements of future car generations. High development competencies Both LEONI as well as Hella have a high level of development competency in their special fields which will complement each other in the new company. While LEONI is responsible for the definition of the wiring harness architecture and the development of networking structures, Hella contributes the respective efficient and space saving electronics. Main emphasis is placed on classic body electronics: Central electronics, operating elements, decentralised distributors, and devices for intelligent wiring harness management. Complementary product range LEONI AG is a system and development supplier and is subdivided into three business divisions: Wire, Cable, and Wiring Systems. At present, the company employs more than 16,000 people at about 60 locations around the world. A turnover exceeding the DM 2 billion mark is expected for the year 2001. The Wiring Systems Division contributes the biggest share to the overall turnover and its product range includes products such as conventional cable harnesses for the automobile as well as flexible printed circuit boards and flat circuits. Hella KG Hueck & Co. develops and manufactures systems and components for the vehicle lighting and electrical technology as well as complete vehicle modules. With 22,000 employees in 49 facilities, production subsidiaries and joint ventures around the world, the Hella Group is a global partner for the automotive industry. Turn-over reached almost DM 5 billion in business year 1999/2000. Competitiveness to be strengthened Both companies hope for the new company to strengthen their competitiveness on the market as a system and development supplier for innovative wiring systems. It is the aim to support automotive manufacturers facing pricing pressure with completely new concepts new circuit technologies, reduction of expensive and very sensitive interfaces and double functions by means of electronics, shorter development and assembly or fitting times.
