Oldsmobile Announces New Advertising Director

Detroit, Mi. - Oldsmobile general manager, Debra Kelly-Ennis announced today the appointment of Randall Tallerico as director of advertising and sales promotion at Olds effective immediately. 

Tallerico succeeds Mike Sands who left Oldsmobile and General Motors to pursue a position with the internet company, Giant Step in Chicago. Kelly-Ennis expressed her satisfaction in retaining such an experienced person in the advertising and sales promotion business. 

Tallerico comes to Oldsmobile from the J. Walter Thompson advertising agency where he was a Senior Partner and International Vice President. At J. Walter Thompson his most recent experiences included the business of Goodyear, Dominos and new e-commerce clients. He is a native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and received a BA in advertising from the University of Michigan in 1974. He joined the Robert Solomon & Associate advertising agency, (now known as Solomon Freedman) and moved to J. Walter Thompson in 1979. In the ensuing 21 years Tallerico progressed through J. Walter Thompson in Detroit, New York, Chicago, Frankfort, Bangkok, Sydney, Paris and London. Advertising management responsibilities have included Burger King, Kellogg's Europe, Kodak Europe and Kraft Foods Worldwide.

General Motors Service Parts Announces Executive Moves

Grand Blanc, Mich.- John F. Smith, General Motors' vice president and general manager of General Motors Service Parts Operations (SPO), announced executive leadership changes for GM Dealers and ACDelco Aftermarket. All appointments are effective Nov. 1. 

E. H. "Gar" Smith, general sales manager of GM Dealers, has elected to retire effective Jan. 1 after 34 years of service with GM including his last ten years with GM SPO. Smith will be placed on special assignment Nov. 1 to ensure a smooth leadership transition. 

Duane F. Miller, current general sales manager, ACDelco Aftermarket, replaces Smith as general sales manager, GM Parts. In his new assignment, Miller will be responsible for GM Parts and Accessory sales and GM Goodwrench Service Plus. As with Smith, Miller will be GM's principal contact with its dealers on matters relating to parts and accessories, and service merchandising opportunities. 

Scott R. Mackie, general director of SPO International and New Ventures, will take over ACDelco Aftermarket together with his current responsibilities.

Smith began his GM career in 1966 at the former Pontiac Motor Division as a service and parts representative in Chicago. Following several assignments in Pontiac's sales organization, he was promoted to zone manager in Buffalo in 1983. While at Pontiac, Smith was named merchandising manager in 1985, manager of national and dealer advertising in 1987, director of marketing in 1988 and director of service and customer satisfaction in early 1990. Later that year, Smith was named general sales manager for GM dealers at GM SPO. A native of South Bend, Ind., Smith attended the University of Illinois and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Century University in  Beverly Hills, Calif. 

Miller joined GM in 1971 as a merchandising representative in Chicago for the former AC Spark Plug Division. A year later he was promoted to district manager and in 1974, became metropolitan district manager in Minneapolis. That same year he transferred to Detroit as merchandising product specialist for ACDelco. In 1975, Miller was named product manager and in 1976 transferred to Cincinnati as ACDelco zone sales manager. He returned to Detroit in 1977 as project manager in marketing and in 1980 was appointed manager of national fleet sales. He was named marketing manager for electrical products at SPO in 1986 and became general product manager for maintenance products and services a year later. Miller has held several positions at SPO including general product manager for electrical and sundry products (1988), western area sales manager for the ACDelco national account sales activity (1989), director of programmed distribution (1991), Detroit zone manager for GM Parts (1991) and west area sales manager for ACDelco (1993). Miller was appointed general sales manager, ACDelco Aftermarket in 1997. Miller earned a bachelor-of-science degree in marketing from Western Michigan in 1971. He also attended the Executive Development Program at the University of California-Berkeley Hass School of Business in 1994. 

Mackie began his career with GM in 1979 as a General Motors Institute (GMI) cooperative educational student at GM of Canada and moved to the former Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac (BOC) Group Assembly Plan in 1981. Following his graduation in 1984, Mackie held positions at BOC in engineering, facilities planning and finance before being named treasurer and director of CAMI Automotive, Inc., a GM-Suzuki joint venture in London, Ontario, Canada in 1988. In 1990, Mackie moved to the GM Treasurer's Office in New York to coordinate financing and acquisition activities for GM operations in Latin America, Asia and Africa and was appointed director of overseas finance a year later. He moved to Zurich in 1992 as the director of financial analysis and planning and was appointed vice president, planning for GM Europe and GM International Operations in 1994. Mackie was named managing director of GM Poland, Warsaw, and Opel Polska, Gliwice in 1996. In 1999, he moved to SPO as general director of new ventures and assumed responsibility for SPO International earlier this year. A native of Ontario, Canada, Mackie received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from GMI (now Kettering University in 1984 and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago in 1986.
