Land Rover Appoints Young & Rubicam As North American Advertising Agency

Irvine, CA - Land Rover North America has appointed the Young & Rubicam (Y&R) Companies, based in Irvine, CA as its new North American advertising agency. The appointment takes effect October 10. Until that time, Land Rover's existing agency, GSD&M, of Austin, TX will remain on the business. By adding advertising and media placement business in North America, Y&R will now handle all of Land Rover's worldwide advertising requirements. Y&R Irvine's first assignment will be the launch of the new three-door Freelander in late 2002.

"With Jaguar and Land Rover now under the same management as a consolidated enterprise, it makes sense for us to gain global perspective and efficiencies by sharing the global advertising agency," said Jon Williams, vice president, Marketing, Land Rover North America. "Y&R have a strong track record in both automotive and luxury market segments and will be a key part of our drive to broaden the appeal of Land Rover products to a wider range of buyers in North America," Williams added.

"We deeply appreciate what Roy Spence and his team at GSD&M have done to position and brand Land Rover in North America. Their effort was exceptional and so was the work. But our changing corporate structure and new directions being taken by Land Rover pointed to this move," said Williams. "The appointment is a corporate decision for Land Rover and does not reflect any dissatisfaction with GSD&M's work."

Speaking for Y&R, David Murphy, president and CEO of the Y&R companies in Irvine said, "With its rich heritage and exciting future, we're thrilled to be part of the Land Rover experience. We believe our unique approach to integrated marketing can help fuel Land Rover's continued growth."

The Y&R companies (Y&R, Wunderman, Mediaedge:cia) will service the Land Rover business from its Irvine offices, coordinating global branding strategies with Y&R headquarters in London, UK. Y&R will handle national, regional and local advertising requirements for Land Rover as well as a variety of other related advertising and creative needs.
