Ford Of Europe's Chairman Nick Scheele Creates Role Of CEO COLOGNE - In an important move to sustain and accelerate Ford of Europe's Transformation Strategy, Ford's Chairman Nick Scheele has created the role of Chief Executive Officer.
"Our strategy of intense product investment and cost reduction is hitting its stride, and since my external responsibilities as Chairman are expanding, the time is right to concentrate the execution of our strategy in the hands of a chief executive," said Scheele. "I plan to take advantage of David Thursfield's considerable operational talent and expertise in this critical role as we move forward in the new year," Scheele added. As Ford of Europe's President and CEO, Thursfield will add responsibility for finance and marketing, sales and service to his current portfolio of manufacturing, purchasing, product development and quality. The remaining functions such as Human Resources, Legal, Governmental and Environmental Affairs, Communications & Public Affairs will have a dual reporting relationship to the Chairman and the CEO. "2001 is not going to be an easy year, but we have a strong business strategy, a pipeline full of outstanding products and excellent people," said Thursfield. "I'm proud and delighted to help lead the Ford team to sustainable profitable growth and an even stronger future for the Ford brand in Europe." Ford announced its European Transformation Strategy in May of 2000. It includes the introduction of 45 major new product actions over five years, including the award winning new Ford Mondeo and the International Van of the Year Winner, the Ford Transit. The strategy also encompasses a newly focused brand message and the commitment to improve efficiency by a total cost reduction of ten percent by 2004. (15 January, 2001) [Homepage] [
