Lexus today unveiled its third luxury
sport-utility vehicle. Called the GX 470, the new model will be
positioned between the brand's car-based RX 300 and the
premium-luxury LX 470 SUVs in size, price and capability.
Based on a new global SUV platform, the Lexus GX
470 will combine the luxury appointments and workmanship of a Lexus
sedan with full-time four-wheel drive, high-tech suspension for
responsive handling and a smooth ride, plus the company's latest
safety technology.
"The new GX 470 sport-utility will offer the
best mix of business and pleasure," said Lexus Group Vice
President and General Manager Denny Clements. "It's comfortable

the same time is roomy and rugged enough for weekend fun, including
towing. The available entertainment system makes it a perfect

The consensus among today's small car
shoppers is that there are plenty of predictable, reliable,
uninspiring choices that can "practically" take care of
most of your needs, but they almost always leave you wanting
something more. Today's consumers yearn for a small sedan that gives
them the good things of today's offerings, yet provides new levels
of sportiness, room, power and personality.
Suzuki took a new approach to give consumers what
they really want -- and named it Aerio. Suzuki changes the small
sedan equation forever with today's introduction of the Aerio at the
North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.
Two models of the Aerio -- a sport sedan and sport
crossover (SX) vehicle -- will go on sale in March 2002, both
blending expressive styling and sportiness with one of the most
powerful standard engines in the small car class and incredible
category-leading space. From the car's name - implying aerodynamics,
smooth shapes and styling -- to its distinctive exterior and
interior design, the Aerio represents a breakthrough in new
small-car thinking. |

At the 2001 International Automobile Exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany
(the 'IAA'), Audi presented the Avantissimo concept study. This was tze
focus of Audi's presentation on the NAIAS. The car displays Audi's
vision of the company that makes the cars bearing the four-ring badge -
a high-performance Avant for the luxury car class.
Dynamism is certainly not lacking in the power unit chosen for the Audi
Avantissimo. The 4.2-litre V8 engine with 'biturbo' forced aspiration
mobilises more than 316 kW (430 bhp) and endows the car with the
performance of a supersport model. The engine's monumental peak torque is
600 newton-metres, a value that remains constant over a large portion of
the rev band.
